Terms & conditions

Last updated: 26 September 2026. This is a first draft. Anything in [square brackets] still needs confirming before it goes live.

These terms cover your use of Picapatch, including choosing a patch and supporting a project. By using the site, you're agreeing to them, so please give them a read. If anything's unclear, get in touch.

About us

Picapatch is run by [legal entity name], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [number]), whose registered address is [address]. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean [legal entity name], and "you" means anyone using the site.

What Picapatch is

Picapatch helps people support good things happening in real places. Each project has an illustrated map divided into patches, and you can choose a patch as a way of contributing to that project.

A patch is a connection to a place, not a piece of it. Choosing a patch doesn't give you ownership of any land, a lease, a right to visit or use it, or any other legal interest in it. It's a lovely way of marking your support, and that's all it is.

Supporting a project

  • Your contribution goes to the project you choose. It's a gift to support that project, not a payment for goods or services.

  • Every patch includes a small platform contribution that helps keep Picapatch running. You can see how this works on our pricing page. [Confirm once platform fees are live at checkout.]

  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Any payment processing costs are shown before you confirm.

  • We'll email you a confirmation once your payment has gone through.

  • Gift Aid isn't available through Picapatch at the moment.

If a project doesn't reach its target

Most projects can put money to good use even if they don't reach their full target, and your contribution will go to the project either way. Some projects genuinely can't go ahead without reaching a minimum amount, such as buying a piece of land. We'll always make that clear on the project before you contribute, along with what happens to contributions if the minimum isn't reached. [Confirm the refund or reallocation process for minimum-target projects.]

Refunds

Because contributions are gifts, they're generally not refundable. That said, mistakes happen. If you've been charged twice or picked the wrong amount, contact us within 14 days and we'll do our best to sort it out with the project. [Confirm the refund policy and who authorises refunds.]

Names and dedications

When you choose a patch, you can add your name and a dedication, and these are shown publicly on the project's map. Please keep them kind. You mustn't include anything that's offensive, unlawful, misleading, or that infringes someone else's rights or privacy.

We may edit or remove a name or dedication that breaks these rules, or that a project organiser reasonably asks us to take down. You can ask us to change or remove your own at any time.

Project checks

Every project is checked before it goes live on Picapatch. We look at who's behind it, their connection to the place and what they're hoping to make happen, and we ask them to be clear about what they're raising money for.

A check isn't a guarantee, though. Things change, costs move, and projects in the real world don't always go exactly to plan. The organisation running each project is responsible for delivering it and for using contributions as described. If you're worried about a project, please tell us.

Running a project

If you run a project on Picapatch, a separate agreement with us will cover how it works, including any Picapatch Studio services and when fees become payable. [Link or reference the project organiser agreement.] If there's a conflict between that agreement and these terms, the agreement wins.

Using the site

Please don't misuse Picapatch. That includes trying to break or overload the site, getting into areas you're not meant to, scraping it in bulk, or using it for anything unlawful or fraudulent. We may suspend access for anyone who does.

The illustrations, maps, text and design on Picapatch belong to us, to the project organisers or to the artists who made them. You're welcome to share links and screenshots of a map to spread the word, but please don't copy or reuse the artwork for anything else without permission.

Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep Picapatch running smoothly, but we can't promise it'll always be available or free from errors.

We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, for anything outside our reasonable control, or for how a project organiser delivers their project. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal information.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, and we'll change the date at the top when we do. The version in force when you make a contribution is the one that applies to it.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
